Regarding international releases

by Carlos Davalos
(San Diego, CA)

Question: I'm planning a documentary project that interviews residents of Argentina, Bolivia and other South American residents. What should I know about securing releases?

Also, some of the interviews will be at a major sporting event (parking lot etc). Do I need to get a release from the organizing committee?

Answer: Yes, if you plan to sell/distribute your film, you definitely need to get releases on anyone you interview. There are lots of free release forms across the internet if you do a search for "film and video release forms". And yes, if you are on private property (sporting event), it is most definitely a good idea to contact the owners in advance and ask permission to film. Get them to sign a location release form if possible.
