April 24, 2023 – Award-winning documentary filmmakers Jilann Spitzmiller and Hank Rogerson, who are also renowned instructors at Desktop Documentaries, have announced the launch of a 20-year sequel to their award-winning film, "SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS."
The original film premiered at Sundance in 2005, garnered 11 awards during its festival run, played at over 40 festivals, and was screened in theaters across the United States before making its way to television worldwide.
Over the past 20 years, "SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS" has become a cult favorite and has inspired more prison arts programs, articles, books, and scholarly research.
While the original documentary showcased the program's significant impact on the quality of life for incarcerated individuals, the filmmakers are following-up with the cast members 20-years later to capture the long-term effects of the SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS program.
The title of the sequel film is SHAKESPEARE BEYOND BARS.
Hank Rogerson is the instructor for Desktop Documentaries' Documentary Proposal Template / Pitch Deck class, while Jilann Spitzmiller teaches the popular Documentary Budgeting Series and is co-instructor of The Documentary Sales & Distribution Course.
Both Hank and Jilann have been long-term instructors at Desktop Documentaries and are highly praised for their excellent resource-packed trainings, tutorials and templates.
To raise funds for the SHAKESPEARE BEYOND BARS documentary sequel project, Hank and Jilann have just launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo.
The funds raised will be used to cover filming expenses and to follow up with the cast of the original film.
Producing a film of this caliber is no small feat, and the Desktop Documentaries team is excited to support Hank and Jilann as they embark on this new project.
