"Narmada Parikrama" Documentary Idea

by Santosh Rao
(Mumbai, Maharastra, India)

I want to make a documentary on a spiritual journey. It is called Narmada parikrama. It is to circumambulate the entire river Narmada which is filled with positive energy. There are many sant (spiritual people) and gyani purosh doing this parikrama.

Request to kindly guide me with this. This is my first project on making a documentary. I am an amateur photographer. Am going through websites in understanding the making of a documentary. And also accumalating all the information about the subject.

Things to consider
by: Desktop Documentaries

Thank you Santosh Rao for your documentary idea.

If you are a photographer, then you may already have a sense of the visuals you are wanting to get. In fact, you could make a beautiful spiritual documentary with photographs alone, using a music bed (with music known to that river) and perhaps people's voices as the "narration".

Here's a page that explains the different styles of documentary that you could choose from.

Storytelling Techniques

When someone is first starting out on a documentary project, I recommend first creating a trailer or a mini-documentary (1-5 minutes long). This gives you a chance to start small and test your idea. To do a trailer, why don't you go interview 1-3 people about their spiritual experience and piece together their words using some photographs you've taken around the river.

Best of luck with your project!
