Alfonso Cuaron Wins 2019 Oscar for Best Director ROMA Speech

Watch Alfonso Cuarón's Oscar 2019 acceptance speech for Directing the film ROMA and his message to fellow artists and filmmakers.

"As artists it is our job to look where others don't."

The Mexican director and his film ROMA captured three Oscar wins: Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography and Best Director.

"I want to thank the Academy for recognizing a film centered around an indigenous woman," Cuarón said during his acceptance speech.

"One of the 70 million domestic workers in the world without work rights, she's a character that has historically been relegated in the background. As artists it is our job to look where others don't. This responsibility becomes much more important in times when we are being encouraged to look away."
